Molecular simulation of fluid phase equilibria

Recent advances in direct and indirect methods of molecular simulation for studying fluid phase equilibria are reviewed. The emphasis is on phase equilibria for fluids of nonspherical molecules, including ionic fluids, aqueous mixtures, hydrocarbons and chain molecules.

Molecular Simulation of Phase Equilibria

This chapter presents an introduction to the rapidly expanding field of molecular simulation methodologies for calculations of fluid-phase coexistence, with particular emphasis on high pressure and supercritical systems. The first part of the chapter deals with methodological issues. The focus is on Monte-Carlo techniques for the determination of free energies and phase equilibria. Particle ins...

Volumetric Properties and Fluid Phase Equilibria of Co2 + H2o

The need for accurate modeling of fluid-mineral processes over wide ranges of temperature, pressure and composition highlighted considerable uncertainties of available property data and equations of state, even for the CO2 + H2O binary system. In particular, the solubility, activity, and ionic dissociation equilibrium data for the CO2-rich phase, which are essential for understanding dissolutio...

Simulating fluid-phase equilibria of water from first principles.

Efficient Monte Carlo algorithms and a mixed-basis set electronic structure program were used to compute from first principles the vapor-liquid coexistence curve of water. A water representation based on the Becke-Lee-Yang-Parr exchange and correlation functionals yields a saturated liquid density of 900 kg/m3 at 323 K and normal boiling and critical temperatures of 350 and 550 K, respectively....

Coexistent Fluid-Phase Equilibria in Biomembranes with Bending Elasticity

The theory of fluid surfaces with elastic resistance to bending is applied to coexistent phase equilibria in biomembranes composed of lipid bilayers. A simplified version of the model is used to simulate the necking and budding of closed vesicles.
